GROUP/INDIVIDUAL SKILLS TRAINING
All Around Skills Training (2nd-5th) is primarily a FUN and FUNDAMENTAL training group. It’s important that the kids at this age are having a lot of fun, and enjoying playing basketball. This group incorporates a lot of simple contests and games to keep the players interested and engaged. The main focus is on basic ball handling, shooting, and attacking the basket.
All Around Skills Training (5th-8th) is a group that begins to focus on more technique during skill development. At these groups, ball handling is still heavily emphasized, and different dribble moves are introduced. Players ready for this level must be able to dribble with both hands and shoot the ball comfortably from beyond 15 feet. Our coaches will begin to correct shooting form at this level and teach more advanced finishes around the rim with contact. During these training groups more competitive games are also introduced like 1 on 1, 2 on 2, and 3 on 3 situations. These sessions will build up over the course of the 8 weeks to a competitive ending utilizing some of the skills that were worked on that day.
Intro To Shooting Training teaches players the proper mechanics for a great shot. The first few weeks are heavily focused on proper form, using one hand only to ensure a proper follow through. Players will begin to add their off hand as the weeks go on. Movement won’t be added to the shot until over halfway through the sessions. In the later weeks more game-like shooting is introduced: pull up jumpers, shooting off of screens, catching and shooting off of movement, and more. Those won’t be put into place until proper footwork, good follow throughs, high arc, body positioning, and more have been heavily emphasized and are achieved by the players attending.
Advanced Shooting Training starts out where the intro class leaves off. Athletes who are in advanced shooting need to already have the basics of shooting down, and are ready to improve the quickness of their release, increase their range, and continue to master all of the different types of shots a complete shooter needs to know.
Guard/Perimeter Training is a progressive based training session, focused on guard-specific skills. The guards focus on ball handling, passing, attacking the basket, shooting off the dribble, catch and shoot, and shooting off screens. Sessions build off of each other each week, adding new skills or wrinkles to what has been worked on the previous week. At the end of the sessions the guards go through a skill-specific game situation against live defense. This allows them to immediately apply the skills to a live game situation, and see the speed with which they’ll have to execute. We want the guards to learn how to read their defender, and then progress to reading the help side defense as well. We typically begin the first few weeks with jab steps, reading your defender, finishing moves, passing, floaters, and then begin working on shooting and screens. So it starts near the basket and works its way back as you progress through each week.
Big Man/High & Low Post Training Focuses On Moves Near The Basket. Footwork Is Heavily Emphasized. Post Players Will Begin With Simple Drills Such As Short Hook Shots, Drop Steps, And More. We Will Work On Reading The Defense, Being Physical, Using Your Body, And How To Score From Multiple Areas. We Primarily Focus On Scoring From The Block After Posting Strong Or Sealing Your Defender, Before Progressing To The Short Corner And High Post.
